In the Cellar with Mari Wells
Coeur
du Terroir (Currr-dew-tear-wah)
We created our first estate Rhone blends to express the intensity of the
varietals, the balance found in blending, and ultimately the Coeur du Terroir.
In French Coeur du Terroir means heart of the earth. As language
doesn’t always translate directly word for word, it really means
something deeper. It means the very core of all environmental components
that make our vineyard at 741 Cold Springs Road the home of the rhones.
Our Coeur du Terroir blends represent the passion of winemaking that connects
the land to the people. They are the very best expression of our earth
and our vineyard, symbolized by the gold seals.
The first vintage of Coeur du Terroir Blanc made a humble
entrance onto our wine bar. However, this co-fermented and
co-harvested blend of five Rhone varietals received 90 Points
in the Wine Enthusiast! (To be printed Dec. 15, 2006) This
blend shows stone fruits, bright acidity, and vitality. It
pairs well with fresh crab and other seafood, soft cheeses,
and spicy salads.
This month we release our 2004 Coeur du Terroir Rouge.
Many murmurs behind the scenes indicate that this is what
we have been waiting for…aromas
of cherry, herbs de Provence, and toasted vanilla. A succulent core is
framed by soft tannins. Our Rouge pairs well with pork, wild game, lamb,
and chocolate and caramel desserts.
Guaranteed to make excellent holiday gifts for the wine enthusiasts
in our life.
Enjoy!!
