Rhone Style Wines by David Girard

About four years ago, our vineyard manager, Ron Mansfield, a winemaker from another winery and I decided we would visit the Rhone grape-growing area of France.  That’s where—well, almost—the Rhone River, which comes out of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, flows into the Mediterranean.  At that time, we were becoming interested in the possibility of making Rhone style wines.  “Rhone style” typically means a lighter style red wine.  Rhone style wines are lighter in character from Bordeaux style wines, for example, where such grapes as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc are grown.

RECENT AWARDS:

Our 2006 Rose wins BEST OF CLASS at the California State Fair and a Gold Medal at the El Dorado County Fair.  Amazingly aromatic, this wine jumps out of the glass with citrus, guava and hints of juniper and pine.  With only a few cases left for sale, be sure to get yours now!

August 5: First Annual Club Grape Stomp
1:00-5:00pm
A day of fun music and a lively grape stomp competition exclusively for club members & their guests.  Team costumes are encouraged!  Register now by calling 295-1833 and prepare to get messy! Winners will receive an etched magnum.

August 10: Hilltop Concert
Featuring “On Call” from 6:30-9:30
This event will be in a picnic style setting at our hilltop venue.  Call the winery to purchase pre-made meals done by Allez! of Diamond Springs for $13.00 per person.  Enjoy their delicious French food while sipping wine and tapping your toes to some classic rock!  bring your lawn chairs.

August 15: Cooking Class “On the Road to Morocco"
$50 per person.

Join Chef Beth Sogaard in the big tent for a celebration of traditions, including belly dancers, eating with your fingers, making friends and fantastic wines!

August 19: Sunday Evening Strings
